HRJC has been running development competitions for almost 3 years now. Our aim is for all the entrants to gain experience and go home with a smile on their face and a medal round their neck. This year we’re going up a step and running comps for up to Orange belts.
Our competitions are development events, and we try to train timekeepers, contest recorders and referees, during these events. If you would like to support future events, by volunteering then please get in touch with the club.
If you’re over 10 and would like to try Timekeeping/contest recording, please get in touch, we’re more than happy to share the table with someone knew, in the past year we have qualified 12 new timekeepers. (Parents once qualified you can get paid mileage to help out at events your children are taking part at, one parent ended up doing the London Olympics and the recent Commonwealth Games!)
For refereeing you will need to be 12 years old and a green belt. Get in touch with the page to see how we can help you on your journey.
The idea of a festival is for under 8’s to have fun, learning and to gather experience for when they’re ready for competitions. We aim to put the children into groups of 4 where they will each get 3 bouts of randori lasting for upto 2 minutes each.
Our “3 scores” system removes traditional judo scores, gives the children a little longer on the mat to experiment with their randori.
All entrants go home with one of our fantastic medals.
Our competition is aimed at children under 16 who have had fewer than 10 competitions.
While we appreciate our medals are amazing, we really do not appreciate people dropping down levels to come take them off of a child who has just started out on their competitive judo journey. This isn’t in line with the judo code and is likely to put a beginner off trying comps again, which inturn means that there are less people competing in the future. So if you’ve fought at a higher level please be considerate of the nature of the competition.
We use the index system where players are sorted into groups by age, grade and weight. Players will hopefully be put into groups of 4.
All entrants will get a medal.
This level of competition will be separated in to Novice/Red’s and Yellow and Orange. The aim is to give children another level of experience without having to leave the area.
Number of entries will be limited to 100, so please get in early to avoid disappointment.

We have started doing Adult novice competitions in 2025 after recognising a lack of opportunity for lower grades to test their skills. This comp is growing in popularity each time we run it.
There aren’t a lot of competitions out there for people new to judo to test their skills out and gain necessary experience before they start fighting for their black belt.

Please enter your child into the relevant event on the form below.
Please make sure that you enter ALL of the information correctly, if you’re unsure then please ask your coach. Entering wrong information at this stage can result in delays on the day and possibly your child not having anyone to fight.
At all of our events, there will be a cash only tuck shop present selling a selection of food and drinks.
Please be aware that we have a small hall and seating is at a premium, do not reserve seats with bags and be please courteous by making room for others.
